Kinsey's top 5 playlist

So Kinsey, what are you listening to right now?

1. My Gal, My Guy - Darlingside. I cannot say enough good things about this band since my friend Simon Marr introduced them. They have exquisite harmonies and dreamlike musicianship. I could listen to the whole album Birds Say on repeat for days at a time. This is a standout track and shows off their craft perfectly.

2. Shine a light by The Rolling Stones. This is a favourite of mine that I keep coming back to again and again, there's something timeless about it. I love Billy Preston's piano playing, it's gospel and uplifting but the overall subject matter is melancholy - I read somewhere that Jagger wrote it in the aftermath of Brian Jones' death. The line about the angels sighing and singing 'come on up now, come on up now' always get me in the guts. I've told the wife I want it played at my funeral which she always forgets so I'll probably get You Can't Always Get What You Want instead.

3. Never Too Much - Luther Vandross I've been jamming this one on bass with a side project band in Birmingham for a fundraiser. I can't say how much fun it is to play this track, an absolute hoot. And the man can sing.

4. Rival Sons - Pressure and Time. This is a stomper, full on Zep groove with bells on. I really like this band, they're proper rock n roll ballsy style.

5. Time - Pink Floyd I've had a rekindling of my love of Pink Floyd since all the hype a month or two ago about Dave Gilmour selling his guitars. There are so many great tracks to choose from with Floyd but I've grown to love Time more and more, it has a groove driven by Wright's keyboard part and the lyrics are just spot on, it reminds me off dicking about as a teenager and squandering the time - where did that all go!?! We're off to see a Floyd tribue band called Darkside in September, I hope they do this track....

RP McMurphy's next gig is Aug 3rd at The Secret Garden, Hereford
